Anyone used Steve Hassans techniques to successful get a JW to see TTATT
by Frazzled UBM ini am back online (sitting in the cathay lounge on my way to sydney) after a week with my wifes dysfunctional jw family in the rural philippines.
thanks to your recommendation i have been reading steve hassans book and it has been very helpful for improving my communications with my wife by making me understand what will keep conversations going and what will shut them down.
it has also helped me to understand what is going on with her.

My advice doesn't exactly reflect the "Hassan" method but, what I've found that works is:
Love Bombing: love your wife/husband/family with every last ounce of your existence.
Appeal to the Real Self: what does your wife/husband/family really love? Sports? Go to a Yankee game one Sunday. Art? Go to the local metropolitan museum in place of a meeting. Fill their lives with reality.
Avoid doctrine: I think this is in line with what Hassan talks about. What gets at them are the emotional issues: pedophilia and such. As much as you are right about doctrine, avoid it.
That's what comes to mind right now.

Bertrand russell on sceptisism (the philosophy)
by bohm ini am currently reading bertrand russells "a history of western philosophy" and this passage struck me as true:.
scepticism naturally made an appeal to many unphilosophic minds.
people observed the diversity of schools and the acerbity of their disputes, and decided that all alike were pretending to knowledge which was in fact unattainable.

by factfinder ini just recieved a copy of the new book "imitate their faith" and notice it was printed in the german branch, not at wallkill.. why would they ship books here (the us) from germany instead of printing them in wallkill?.
the new tracts were printed in canada.. is something going on at the wallkill printery that would would hinder book production there?.

Using the name Jehovah when praying
by Ding ini know of number of jws who believe that if anyone doesn't address god as jehovah when praying that the prayer really goes to satan... especially if you pray to someone else (jesus, for example).. i haven't been able to find that specific teaching in wt literature.
they do say that we are to pray only to jehovah, but i haven't been able to locate a publication that says the prayer really goes to satan if you don't.. is there such a reference?.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from.
But when you break it down, there's "guilt," and there's "inappropriate guilt."
Most people will feel guilty about the stuff they're supposed to: lying, killing people, stealing. . . All of the big "ten commandment" stuff. No brainier shit.
Then there's the guilt that is imposed upon you by your: culture, family, religion, job. . . . and yourself. That's all pretty much inappropriate guilt. Bullshit nonsense heaped upon ourselves or others.
And yeah, the hate thing isn't far behind. Mostly when you hate and loathe your own existence.
I really would recommend a psychologist/psychotherapist. And if you've tried that already without success, try another.
My wife, who is still "in," has seen an absolute sea change in me since I started about 18 months ago.
Best of luck,

When I woke up, and especially when I read Franz's books, I felt like I had been raised in North Korea.
The information control is amazing.

The final chapter in the confusedandalone story...
by confusedandalone inthis morning i get a frantic call from my sister (who has been baptized 1 year and one month and never attends meetings anymore).
in tears she tells me that this morning my father picked her up in the car and told her that i was am apostate.
that i no longer loved jehovah and that i was going to be disfellowshipped.

Well, it is what it is. It's a shame this is what it all comes down to. People doing stupid things that other people tell them to do.
And as much as this is "the final chapter" with Witnessdom, you should look foward to writing a new book with your wife and kids!
Best of luck,
BOC
